Au Bon Marché

The first Swiss department store to introduce the concept of self-service while offering quality articles at „likeable“ prices was called ABM (Au Bon Marché). This book is dedicated to the straight-forward and precise design of the iconic ABM advertising catalogs from 1961 and 1965 that were designed by Ernst + Ursula Hiestand.

Self-bound book dummies – created in collaboration with Milena Küpfer and Virgilia Ramella.

Interviewing Ursula Hiestand

Ursula Hiestand (85) kindly agreed to a three-hour interview with us. During the interview, we gained a lot of new and insightful information about her time as a graphic designer at ABM. We wanted to make this unique experience accessible to the public, too. For this reason, we decided to create an interactive application that would allow its users to experience the interview themselves. The result is an audiovisual prototype with the original sound recordings of her answers to our questions.
